I am assistant professor at University College Dublin at the
School of Computer Science. I
am also a funded investigator at Lero - the Irish Software Research
Centre.
I lead the Science Foundation
Ireland SIRG project ForCoPS - Forensics Investigations of
Cyber-Physical Incidents.
My research interests include requirements engineering and adaptive systems. My work has focused on using runtime models to engineer complex systems, including cyber-physical systems, in order to satisfy their security requirements, and ensure that they are forensic-ready and comply with data protection regulations.
News
03/09/2020 RE'20 Most Influential Paper Award I received the Most Influential Paper Award at the 28th International Requirements Engineering Conference (RE'20) in Switzerland, in recognition of my paper entitled: "Fuzzy Goals for Requirements-Driven Adaptation", published 10 years ago. The paper was part of my PhD research and was co-authored with Dr. Paola Spoletini and Prof. Luciano Baresi.
16/03/2020 Lero Trees Program: The Lero research program on "Trustworthy Responsible Efficient Engineering of Software" has been funded by Huawei. I am the PI for the leaf project titled "Assurance Cases for Software Compliance with Security Standards".
14/03/2020 TSE Paper Accepted: The paper titled "Incidents Are Meant for Learning, Not Repeating: Sharing Knowledge About Security Incidents in Cyber-Physical Systems" co-authored with Faeq Alrimawi, Nobukazu Yoshioka, Deepak Metha and Bashar Nuseibeh was accepted to the Transactions of Software Engineering journal.
15/01/2020 IEEE Software Special Issue: The special issue titled "Software Engineering in Society" and co-edited with Rick Kazman and Smita Ghaisas was published in the IEEE Software Magazine.

Students and Collaborators
If you are interested in doing research about secure software engineering and have a passion for making things concrete and not just on paper, drop me a line. Several thesis topics, as well as smaller projects are available around these themes!
Right now, I have the pleasure to work with a number of smart people around the world:
Faeq Alrimawi (PhD Student @ Lero co-supervised with B. Nuseibeh, security incidents management)
Vanessa Ayala-Rivera (Post-Doc @ University College Dublin, regulatory compliance)
Mazen Azzam (PhD Student @ Lero co-supervised with B. Nuseibeh and G. Provan, engineering forensic-ready cyber-physical systems)
Aimee Borda (PhD Student @ Trinity College Dublin supervised by V. Koutavas, compositional verification of adaptive systems)
Alzubair Hassan (PostDoc @ University College Dublin, adaptive security)
Vasileios Koutavas (Assistant Professor @ Trinity College Dublin, compositional verification of adaptive systems)
Fanny Rivera-Ortiz (PhD Student @ University College Dublin, forensic-ready software systems)
